Visit to Kanjeru Primary School in Kikuyu, Kiambu County on 12th August 2022

The Directors of Every Child Counts USA Inc, led by the CEO, Bindu Balakrishnan, and Samir Kamat, and the Directors of Kila Mtoto Afaidike Program (KMAP) visited Kanjeru Primary School in Kikuyu, Kiambu County on 12th August 2022. This was the first visit by the directors of ECC. The team was welcomed by the headmistress, Mrs. Agatha Kamau, the Chairman of the Parent Teachers Association Mr. Johnston Kioko, the Chairman of the Board Of Management Mr. Thomas Njororge, and teachers in the school.

The visitors launched the Special Needs block at Kanjeru school to be constructed at a cost of 5 million Kenya Shillings. The block will have two classrooms, a kitchen, and a washroom.  The Special Needs Education block will ensure a better learning environment for children with disabilities and possibly help fast-track their integration into the mainstream curriculum. Kanjeru school has 55 special needs children who lack a special learning facility. 

 The SNE block is expected to be completed by January 2023

It was a joyous occasion. Bindu and Samir received gifts of hand-woven sweaters made by the special needs children. The school management and teachers thanked the visitors for all the support given to Kanjeru. They expressed their joy about the construction of the SNE block and looked forward to its completion.

In 2020, ECC USA, In provided funds for the renovation of the kitchen and installation of modern cooking systems at Kanjeru Primary school at a cost of one Million Kenya Shillings.

ECC and KMAP will continue to partner with Kanjeru Primary School to improve the learning environment for children in the community.
