The Director of Every Child Counts USA Inc (ECC), Bindu Balakrishnan and Samir Kamat in the company of the Directors of Kila Mtoto Afaidike Program visited Waitua Primary School on 5th August 2022. The guests were welcomed by the school Headmaster Mr. Modesto Mungai, teachers, and members of the school Board of management led by the chairperson, Mrs. Consolata Ngoiri.
The visitors were impressed by the new face of Waitua following the renovations done in the school earlier this year. The renovation project was funded by the ECC to the tune of Ksh 1.2 Million. The school repaired all broken window glasses, painted all the walls, and repaired the worn-out verandahs.
ECC CEO promised to help the school buy water pipes for connecting the school with the local water supply system. In early September, the pipes were bought with support from ECC and installed. The school now has a more reliable water supply.
ECC supports a feeding program in the school which benefits 150 children from poor families. The feeding program which started in 2019 has increased the enrollment rate in Waitua and reduced cases of malnutrition among children in the school.
In 2020, ECC supported Waitua with 100 metal framed desks, and a kitchen equipped with an energy-saving cooking system. This has greatly improved the learning environment in the school.
ECC CEO thanked the headmaster and the management of the school for working towards improving the conditions in the school. The school management and teachers thanked the visitors for all the support given to the school. ECC and KMAP will continue their partnership with Waitua with a view to making the learning environment in Waitua even better.
