Senior Chief Mutunkei kitchen project

Senior Chief Mutunkei Primary School is located in Kitengela township of Kajiado

County of Kenya. The school has a student population of 320 students. Most parents of

children in the school are casual labourers in flower farms in Kitengela area.

The school has pupils from nearly all the tribes in Kenya; the Maasai, Luhya, Luo,

Kikuyu, Kamba, Kalenjin, Embu, Meru, Taita, and Kiisi among others. The parents are

immigrant casual laborers from all over Kenya. Most of them earn less than $ 100.00 a month and really struggle to feed and educate their children.

The school seats on 2 acres of land donated by the late senior chief Mutunkei when he

saw the need to have a public school nearby to support these needy families. The

school is about 10 years old since inception. Almost half of the school population stays hungry during school days since they are unable to contribute some little beans and maize grains for the lunch meal. Some are lucky to get something at home.

The school has been using a makeshift kitchen for its feeding program and has requested support with a decent kitchen and a boost for its feeding program to take care of all needy students.

ongoing kitchen construction at Mutunkei school

ECC has supported the construction of a modern kitchen at Mutunkei Primary School. Modern energy-saving jikos have been installed in the school to save wood fuel. The kitchen will ensure better hygiene during the preparation of meals and will be ready for use by April.

KMAP would like to thank the Every Child Counts for this generous support. Mutunkei school fraternity is also very grateful to ECC for this assistance.
